Presidents' Day—officially Washington's Birthday in federal law—is observed on the third Monday of February across the United States. Retail calendars, school districts, banks, and shipping SLAs all need that movable date without maintaining a holiday spreadsheet. This capability accepts one civil year and returns the ISO date using the fixed federal weekday rule: pure arithmetic, no network, identical output for the same year every time.

What Presidents' Day is and how the federal date is defined

Federal statute sets Washington's Birthday as the third Monday of February. In popular usage and retail marketing the day is widely called Presidents' Day, and many states align closures with that Monday even when local names differ. Because it is a weekday-of-month rule rather than a fixed calendar day, the civil date moves between February 15 and February 21.

Teams that plan store hours, school snow-day makeup calendars, bond settlement blackouts, or delivery cutoffs need a stable function of year alone. Scraping public calendars introduces dependency risk; hard-coding a few years breaks as soon as planning extends forward. Encoding the third-Monday rule keeps every client—web form, mobile app, or batch job—on the same ISO string for a given year.

That single rule is what payroll, retail, and market-hours systems encode when they ask for the holiday date by year alone.

How the conversion works and what fields are returned

The solver validates year as a finite integer in the supported band, then computes the third Monday of February with UTC civil calendar arithmetic. Output always includes year, date as YYYY-MM-DD, a stable English name Presidents' Day, and weekday Monday. There is no separate observed field because the federal holiday is already defined as that Monday; optional keys are omitted rather than returned as null when unused.

The computation does not depend on the server's local timezone: February is taken as a civil month, not as a timestamp conversion.

Where this fits and what it deliberately does not do

Call this capability when you need only the US federal Presidents' Day date for a year. It does not list state-specific alternate observances, does not combine Lincoln's birthday where still observed separately, and does not return a multi-holiday pack. Combine it with MLK Day, Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples' Day, and Juneteenth calculators when you assemble a domestic federal set.

HR systems can feed the date into leave blackout lists; e-commerce can flag free-shipping cutoffs; municipal apps can label parking and trash schedule changes. The free web UI takes a year field from the standard vocabulary so labels hydrate cleanly across locales after Nitro's translation pass. Always layer your own policy on top if your organization substitutes a different day or treats the Monday as optional.

Is Presidents' Day the same as Washington's Birthday?

Federal law names Washington's Birthday; the popular label Presidents' Day refers to the same third Monday of February.

What weekday is it always on?

Monday — specifically the third Monday of February.

Do you return separate observed and calendar dates?

No. The federal holiday is already defined as that Monday, returned once as date.

What are the earliest and latest dates Presidents' Day can fall on?

It always lands between 15 and 21 February. Because the rule is the third Monday of the month rather than a fixed day, the date moves within that week from year to year.

Does it include Lincoln's Birthday or state holidays?

No. It returns only the federal Presidents' Day date. State alternatives and a separate Lincoln's Birthday are not included, so add your own policy if your organization uses a different day.

Prefer to automate it? One authenticated POST creates the task; the result comes back by webhook or a signed link. The same capability also runs here on the web, by email and from Telegram — and soon from our app too.

How the conversion works and what fields are returned

Empty input, non-integers, and years outside range raise invalid_input with an English message suitable for form display.

Which years are supported?

1900–2200 inclusive as integers; other values raise invalid_input.

Does this include state-only holidays?

No. Only the US federal third-Monday-of-February date.
