The United States observes Father's Day on the third Sunday of June, so its numbered date changes from year to year.

How the US Father's Day rule becomes a date

In the United States, Father's Day is observed on the third Sunday of June. That wording defines a calendar position rather than one fixed numbered date. The result must always fall from June fifteenth through June twenty-first: the first Sunday can occur from June first through June seventh, the second follows seven days later, and the third follows after another seven days.

The calculator first determines the weekday of June first for the requested year using proleptic Gregorian arithmetic. It then advances by the smallest nonnegative number of days needed to reach the first Sunday and adds fourteen days. The returned weekday is therefore always Sunday, while the day number changes with the year.

This capability applies that modern US observance rule directly for every supported year. It does not attempt to decide whether a particular family, business, school, or jurisdiction celebrates on another day, and it does not attach opening hours or local event times. The result is a civil calendar date, not a timestamp, so there is no time-zone conversion hidden inside the answer.

Send a year and read the deterministic response

Supported years run from one through nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine in the proleptic Gregorian calendar. The ISO field is convenient for calendar exports, database rows, and sorting, while the separate numeric fields avoid forcing clients to parse a formatted string. The algorithm never calls Date and never consults the host clock.

It uses bounded integer operations to determine the weekday of June first, so repeated calls with the same input yield the same fields in UTC-oriented calendar notation regardless of server location, browser language, daylight-saving setting, or execution time.

Use it for calendars, campaigns, and reminders

Calendar publishers can generate future annual editions without keeping a hand-maintained table of Father's Day dates. Retail and hospitality teams can place campaign milestones relative to the returned Sunday, such as preparing a promotion several weeks earlier or scheduling a special menu for the observance weekend. Reminder applications can compute the date when a user creates a recurring annual reminder, then add the desired local notification time separately.

Interactive lookups are free in the browser. Because the calculation has no network dependency, it cannot become stale because a holiday website changes its markup or goes offline. For historical research, remember that the output consistently applies the stated calendar rule; it does not claim that every returned year reflects the legal or social history of the observance in that year.

That predictable scope makes the result especially suitable for forward schedules and rule-based datasets.

Generate annual calendars

Insert the third Sunday of June into printable, shared, or application calendars without maintaining a yearly lookup table.

Plan Father's Day campaigns

Anchor retail, restaurant, nonprofit, or content schedules to the correct US observance date for each campaign year.

Schedule recurring reminders

Compute the year's civil date first, then let the reminder application apply the user's preferred local notification time.

When is Father's Day in the United States?

It is observed on the third Sunday of June. The numbered date therefore changes each year and always falls between June 15 and June 21.

What input is required?

Send an integer Gregorian year from 1 through 9999 in the year field.

Does the calculation use my local time zone?

No. It calculates a civil Gregorian date deterministically with integer arithmetic. It does not create a timestamp or depend on a local time zone.

Is this a historical observance database?

No. It applies the stated third-Sunday-of-June rule consistently to the requested year rather than researching historical adoption or local customs.

What is the earliest and latest date Father's Day can fall on?

Between 15 and 21 June. The first Sunday of June falls between 1 and 7 June, and the third Sunday comes exactly fourteen days later, so it can never be earlier or later than that week.

POSThttps://api.kit.forhosting.com/date/fathers-day-us

Prefer to automate it? One authenticated POST creates the task; the result comes back by webhook or a signed link. The same capability also runs here on the web, by email and from Telegram — and soon from our app too.

curl -X POST https://api.kit.forhosting.com/date/fathers-day-us \

The API is asynchronous: the call returns a task_id immediately and the result arrives by webhook. Polling is capped at 1 req/s per task.

That makes it useful for people checking a date in the browser and for software generating calendars, reminders, retail schedules, or event plans through the API.

Send a year and read the deterministic response

Provide one JSON object containing year as an integer. The short aliases y and yr are also accepted for convenient scripts and forms. A missing year, fractional value, nonnumeric value, array, or out-of-range number produces an invalid_input error instead of a plausible-looking date. A successful response includes year, month fixed at six, the calculated day of the month, iso_date in YYYY-MM-DD form, weekday set to Sunday, rule set to third_sunday_of_june, and an observance label identifying United States Father's Day.

Use it for calendars, campaigns, and reminders

The separation is important: this endpoint answers which civil date is the third Sunday of June, while your application remains responsible for interpreting a time of day in the recipient's time zone. Automated API requests cost $0.002 for each successful item, with validation failures not charged.

How much does the Father's Day date API cost?

The browser calculator is free. Each successful API request costs $0.002, and invalid inputs are not charged.
