Days until birthday
See how many days remain until the next birthday: for someone born on 1990-05-15, there are 294 days left on 2026-07-25, counting to the next birthday on 2027-05-15. Handy for parties, gifts and reminders. Free in your browser.

A days-until-birthday calculator answers a planning question families, schools, and reminder systems actually type into a search box: how many civil days remain between today and the next time a person celebrates their birth date. Gift shops, classroom calendars, and notification pipelines all need that integer, not a completed-year age and not a raw span between two unrelated timestamps. This tool never invents today from a server clock. The result is the number of days until the next birthday on or after today, including zero when the two dates already share the anniversary.
What days until the next birthday means
Days until the next birthday is a forward countdown on the civil calendar, not an age in whole years and not a mixed years-months-days remainder. The engine places the next observed anniversary of the birth month and day on or after the supplied today, then subtracts proleptic Gregorian ordinals so the answer is a non-negative integer of calendar days. If today already is the birthday, the countdown is zero and the next birthday date is today itself; the person is turning that age now, not in a year.
If the anniversary in the current year has already passed, the engine advances one year and measures the gap to that later date. The same pair of civil dates always produces the same integer, because the engine never samples a host clock, a time zone, or daylight-saving tables. A person born on the fifteenth of May nineteen ninety has two hundred ninety-four days remaining on the twenty-fifth of July two thousand twenty-six, because the next fifteenth of May is in two thousand twenty-seven.
The same person has zero days remaining on the fifteenth of May two thousand twenty-six, because the anniversary is today. Leap-day births follow the first real day after a missing twenty-ninth of February: in a non-leap year the observed birthday is the first of March, which matches the sibling whole-year age rule that a twenty-ninth-of-February birth is not yet reached on the twenty-eighth. This is a next-birthday contract, not a completed-year age and not an unordered day count between two arbitrary dates.
Use those neighbouring tools when the search is how old someone is or how long a span lasts; use this page when the search and the form ask only how many days remain until the next birthday.
Where a days-until-birthday calculator earns its keep
Party planners and gift retailers need a single remaining-day count against an explicit as-of date, not a completed-year age that a clerk would have to convert back into a countdown. Classroom celebration calendars, camp welcome notes, and family dashboards fire a banner when the integer hits seven, one, or zero. Reminder and loyalty systems schedule a message for the morning of the next birthday without embedding a timezone database in every client.
Human-resources recognition programs and pediatric clinics store the same countdown against an audit date so exports and regression suites reproduce the number every time. Parent pages and in-store kiosks can run the free in-browser days-until-birthday calculator without installing a date library. Keep expectations honest: this capability measures Gregorian civil days from an explicit today to the next observed birthday; it does not skip weekends as business days, load public holiday calendars, convert lunar birthdays, default today from the server clock, or return leftover months of current age.
Pair it with a whole-year age tool when the product copy asks how old someone is, and with a years-months-days helper when a pediatric chart needs the leftover months.
What you can do with it
Party and gift countdowns
Pass a birth date and an as-of day to show how many civil days remain before the next birthday for invitations, shop displays, and family reminders.
Classroom and camp celebration calendars
Pin each learner's next birthday against a fixed planning date so banners and cake lists stay identical in every classroom reprint.
Reminder and recognition pipelines
Store the integer countdown against an audit today so loyalty messages and HR recognition jobs fire on the observed anniversary without host-clock drift.
FAQ
What if the birth date is not a real calendar day?
February 29 is accepted only in leap years; months outside one through twelve and impossible day numbers are rejected.
How are leap-day birthdays counted?
A birth on 29 February is observed on 1 March in a non-leap year, because that is the first real day after the missing date. In a leap year the anniversary is 29 February itself.
What does the days-until-birthday calculator cost?
The browser tool is free on your device.
What does the countdown show when today is the birthday?
It shows 0 days, and the next birthday is today itself. For someone born on 1990-05-15, entering 2026-05-15 as the current day gives a countdown of zero, because the anniversary has arrived.
Why do I have to type the current date myself?
Because the calculator never reads a clock, so the same two dates always give the same countdown. That also lets you plan ahead: enter any day as your starting point and see how many days remain from there.

Technical notes
You supply both the birth date and the as-of day as civil YYYY-MM-DD values, so the same pair always yields the same countdown in a browser, in continuous integration, and on the API. Invalid calendar days fail with invalid_input and are not billed. Successful API calls use the published $0.002 base price.
Input contract, calendar validation, and the response shape
Each value should be a civil calendar day in YYYY-MM-DD form, for example nineteen ninety hyphen zero five hyphen fifteen for a birth date and two thousand twenty-six hyphen zero seven hyphen twenty-five for the as-of day. You may prefix a full ISO-8601 datetime; if a time is present only the calendar date part is used, because a birthday countdown is a date-to-date measure, not a clock duration with time zones. Years range from one through nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine, months must be one through twelve, and the day must exist in that month under Gregorian leap rules, including February twenty-nine only in leap years. POST a compact JSON body with two required string fields: birth_date and today. Optional aliases birth, birthdate, dob, and from map to the birth field; as_of, reference_date, reference, and on map to today so form builders and SDKs can keep familiar names. Impossible pairs such as two thousand twenty-three hyphen zero two hyphen twenty-nine are rejected with invalid_input instead of being clamped into March. If the birth date falls strictly after today, the request fails with a clear message that the next birthday cannot precede the birth date. Missing fields, empty strings, and non-string values fail with invalid_input naming the field and are not billed.
Where a days-until-birthday calculator earns its keep
Call the prepaid API when notification pipelines, print shops, or classroom tools need a stable contract under KIT balance at $0.002 per successful item; validation failures never consume balance after the engine rejects the request.
Technical questions
How do I calculate days until the next birthday?
Send JSON with birth_date and today as YYYY-MM-DD. The engine places the next observed anniversary on or after today and returns days, next_birthday, is_birthday, and turning_age.
Does this birthday countdown use the server clock for today?
No. today is required. The engine never reads the system clock, so results stay identical in CI, browsers, and API workers.
