A quarter circle is one-fourth of a full disk cut by two perpendicular radii, leaving a 90-degree curved arc between them. Given a single non-negative radius, this calculator returns the enclosed area and the length of that curved arc alone. Zero is allowed and yields zero area and arc length for a degenerate bound.
How quarter-circle area and arc length are computed from radius
Label the distance from the center of the full circle to any point on the curved edge as the radius r. The area of a solid quarter circle is exactly one-fourth the classic disk area: area equals one-fourth pi times r squared, written A = (1/4) π r². That measures the planar region inside the 90-degree arc and bounded by the two radial cuts.
The curved arc alone has length (1/2) π r, which is one-fourth of the full circumference 2 π r. Classic checks include radius one, which yields area about 0.785398163397 and arc length about 1.570796326795; radius two, which yields area about 3.14159265359 and arc length about 3.14159265359; and radius five, a common textbook case with area about 19.634954084936 and arc length about 7.853981633975.
Because the path uses only multiplication, a fixed quarter factor for area, a fixed half factor for arc length, and Math.PI, it is deterministic, O(1), and free of iterative solvers.
What you send and what you get back
Provide one required finite number: radius is the radius of the quarter circle and must be non-negative. Zero is accepted and produces area zero and arc length zero. Example checks: radius one yields area one-fourth pi and arc length one-half pi; radius five scales area by r squared and arc length linearly with r; a radius of minus three fails naming the field and the non-negative rule.
Wire the free browser tool for quick sanity checks, then call the identical contract from scripts for bulk evaluation without reimplementing the quarter-circle formulas in every language. Invalid input is not charged, so exploratory validation in CI stays cheap while production calls remain predictable.
Where quarter-circle calculations show up in real work
Secondary-school and college plane-geometry courses constantly ask students for the area and arc length of a quarter circle given only the radius, and often distinguish the curved arc from the full closed perimeter that would also include two radial sides on the same problem set; a trusted calculator with a strict non-negative radius gate speeds homework grading and removes spreadsheet mistakes where someone uses the full-disk area or confuses a semicircle with a quarter circle.
Architecture, window fabrication, and metalwork size corner fillets, quarter-round arches, and decorative quarter-circles from outer or design radius; area feeds glass and fill estimates while arc length informs trim, gasket, and railing lengths along the curve. Landscape and civil plans place quarter-circle beds, curb returns, and paved corner aprons; area drives planting or paving takeoffs and arc length drives curved edging. Game, graphics, and CAD libraries store quarter-disk colliders and primitives; deterministic area and arc length support debug readouts and material estimates without a full mesh library.
If you later need a full circle, a semicircle, a circular sector of arbitrary angle, a circular segment, or a solid quarter-sphere in 3D, treat those as separate search intents rather than overloading this quarter-circle landing.
What you can do with it
Homework and exam checks
Compute quarter-circle area and arc length from radius, and reject a negative radius with a clear error.
Corner arcs, fillets, and curved trim
From design radius, recover fill area and curved edge length for quarter-round openings and railings.
Quarter-disk metrics in games and CAD
Turn a single radius into area and arc length for layout, material estimates, and property panels.
FAQ
What happens if the radius is negative?
The radius must be a finite non-negative number; the error message names the field and states that the radius must not be negative.
Is zero allowed?
Yes. A zero radius yields area zero and arc length zero (a degenerate quarter circle). Only strictly negative values are rejected.
Is this the same as a semicircle or a full circle?
No. A full circle has area π r² and circumference 2π r; a semicircle uses half those values for area and arc; this tool uses one-fourth of the full-disk area and one-fourth of the full circumference for the 90-degree arc.
What does it cost?
The browser tool is free and runs locally.
Does the arc length include the two straight sides?
No. It is only the curved edge, half of π times the radius, a quarter of the full circumference. The closed outline of the shape would also add the two straight radii.

For developers — API access
Everything on this page is available programmatically. This section is for teams who want to wire it into their own systems; everyone else can just use the tool above.
API endpoint
Prefer to automate it? One authenticated POST creates the task; the result comes back by webhook or a signed link. The same capability also runs here on the web, by email and from Telegram — and soon from our app too.

Pricing
Published price — no tokens, no invented credits. A failed task is never charged.
Errors
| HTTP | Code | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
401 | unauthorized | Missing or invalid API key. |
402 | insufficient_balance | Your balance doesn't cover the task price. |
404 | unknown_type | That task type doesn't exist. |
429 | rate_limited | Too many requests. Use the webhook instead of polling. |
Technical notes
A missing, non-finite, or negative radius is rejected with a clear invalid_input error instead of a silent nonsense area. No network calls, no random sampling, and no floating-point surprises beyond ordinary IEEE-754 arithmetic on the radius you provide.
How quarter-circle area and arc length are computed from radius
Huge magnitudes can still overflow IEEE-754 double range; when intermediates are non-finite the request fails with a clear overflow message instead of returning Infinity in JSON. That closed form matches elementary geometry textbooks and keeps automated graders aligned with hand computation on the same radius.
What you send and what you get back
Missing fields, empty strings, non-numeric text, NaN, Infinity, and any negative radius are rejected with invalid_input and are not charged. On success the JSON response returns radius, area, arc_length, formula set to the quarter-disk identities, and method set to quarter_circle_quarter_pi_r2_arc_half_pi_r so logs and teaching UIs can document the algorithm. API pricing is the published base of $0.002 per successful item.
Where quarter-circle calculations show up in real work
Because this capability is a pure parse engine, failed validation does not consume balance and successful runs stay at $0.002 per item.
Technical questions
What formulas does this calculator use?
area = (1/4) π r²; arc_length = (1/2) π r (one-quarter of the full circumference 2πr). The response also returns formula and method: "quarter_circle_quarter_pi_r2_arc_half_pi_r".
