American Rescue Plan stimulus
A married couple with two children and an adjusted gross income of 140,000 gets the full 5,600, because they sit below the 150,000 point where the payment starts shrinking. Enter your own figures to see your exact amount. Free in your browser.

The full amount applies up to an income threshold, then shrinks linearly until it reaches zero at a hard ceiling, and both bounds depend on filing status. This calculator applies those rules to your adjusted gross income, filing status and dependent count, and returns the exact payment the formula produces, including partial amounts inside the phase-out band.
How the phase-out works
Above the threshold, the payment does not drop to zero at once — it phases out along a straight line. Inside the band the reduction is proportional: each dollar of AGI above the threshold removes the same fraction of the base, so the midpoint of the band pays exactly half. The calculator reports the threshold and the zero-payment ceiling alongside the result, so you can see exactly where in the band your income falls and how far you are from either edge.
Inputs, assumptions and limits
The only inputs are adjusted gross income, filing status and the number of dependents. AGI must be zero or positive — a negative income is rejected as invalid input rather than silently clamped. The calculator implements the statute as written: it does not model the look-back rules that let some filers use an earlier year's income, the recovery rebate credit for people who were underpaid, or interactions with other credits.
It is a deterministic formula evaluation, identical every time for the same inputs, suitable for estimating what a household of a given profile would have received and for embedding the computation in payroll, benefits or tax-planning tools that need the exact phase-out arithmetic.
What you can do with it
Estimate a household's payment
Enter AGI, filing status and dependents to see the exact payment, including partial amounts inside the phase-out band.
Check eligibility at an income boundary
Verify whether a given AGI falls below the threshold, inside the reduction band, or past the zero-payment ceiling for a filing status.
FAQ
What happens if my income is negative?
Adjusted gross income must be zero or positive.
Does it model the recovery rebate credit or prior-year look-back?
No. It evaluates the statutory formula exactly as written for the given AGI, filing status and dependent count, with no look-back or credit interactions.
How much is the third stimulus payment per person?
It is 1,400 for the filer, another 1,400 for a spouse on a joint return and 1,400 for every dependent, with no age limit. A single filer with no dependents starts from 1,400 and a married couple filing jointly from 2,800.
At what income does the stimulus payment start to phase out?
Single filers and married people filing separately keep the full amount up to 75,000 of adjusted gross income and receive nothing from 80,000. For joint returns the band runs from 150,000 to 160,000, and head of household starts shrinking at 112,500.
How much do I get if my income falls inside the phase-out band?
A partial payment. It drops in a straight line across the band, so every extra dollar of income removes the same slice, and an income exactly at the midpoint receives half the base amount. The result also shows both edges of your band.

Technical notes
The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 authorized a third Economic Impact Payment of $1,400 per person — for the filer, a spouse on a joint return, and every dependent of any age.
What the payment is made of
The american rescue plan stimulus calculator starts from this base and then applies the reduction, so the output always shows both the theoretical maximum for your household and the amount that survives the phase-out. Because the per-person amount is fixed by statute and not by income, two households with the same size and status always share the same base; only the AGI decides how much of it is actually paid. The third stimulus payment is a flat $1,400 multiplied by the number of eligible people on the return. A single filer with no dependents has a base of $1,400. A married couple filing jointly starts from $2,800, and each dependent — child or adult, there is no age limit under this law — adds another $1,400. That base amount is what you receive in full when your adjusted gross income stays at or below the full-payment threshold for your filing status.
How the phase-out works
For single filers and married filing separately, the full amount holds to $75,000 and vanishes at $80,000. For married filing jointly the band runs from $150,000 to $160,000, and for head of household from $112,500 to $120,000. This design means the marginal reduction rate is steep — for a single filer with no dependents, $5,000 of extra income inside the band eliminates the entire $1,400.
Inputs, assumptions and limits
Dependents are counted as a whole number and each one adds a full $1,400 to the base, reflecting the law's expansion to dependents of any age, which earlier rounds did not cover.

Technical questions
What does it cost?
$0.002 per request via the API. It is also free to run in your browser on this page.
How much is the payment per person?
$1,400 for each eligible person: the filer, a spouse on a joint return, and every dependent of any age.
At what income does the payment phase out?
It starts shrinking above $75,000 for single filers, $112,500 for head of household and $150,000 for married filing jointly, and reaches zero at $80,000, $120,000 and $160,000 respectively.
Do adult dependents count?
Yes. Under the American Rescue Plan each dependent of any age — including college students and elderly parents — adds a full $1,400 to the base amount.
