HEALS Act stimulus check calculator

Under the HEALS Act proposal, a single filer with 40,000 of adjusted gross income and one dependent would have received the full 1,700: 1,200 for the adult plus 500 for the dependent. Every dependent counted, not just children. Free in your browser.

The HEALS Act stimulus check is the second-round recovery rebate Senate Republicans proposed in July 2020 inside the Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and Schools package. This calculator takes adjusted gross income, federal filing status, and the number of dependents, then returns the payment the draft would have issued: one thousand two hundred dollars per adult, two thousand four hundred on a joint return, plus five hundred dollars for each dependent, reduced by five percent of AGI above the filing-status threshold. Unlike the first CARES Act economic impact payment, HEALS counted every dependent, not only children under seventeen.

What the HEALS Act stimulus check is and how the payment is computed

The search heals act stimulus check maps onto a specific July 2020 Senate Republican draft, not onto California's Middle Class Tax Refund and not onto the December 2020 six-hundred-dollar check that later became law. Inside the Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and Schools package, Majority Leader McConnell's bill copied the CARES Act adult dollars: one thousand two hundred for an eligible individual and two thousand four hundred on a married-filing-jointly return, plus five hundred dollars for each dependent. The important HEALS change is the dependent definition.

CARES paid the five hundred dollars only for qualifying children under seventeen; HEALS counted every dependent claimed on the return, including college students and adult dependents, and the draft did not cap the number of dependents per household. Filing status chooses both the adult base and the phase-out threshold. Adjusted gross income is the figure the five-percent reduction uses.

The reduction starts above seventy-five thousand dollars for single, married-filing-separately, and qualifying-widow returns, above one hundred twelve thousand five hundred for head of household, and above one hundred fifty thousand for married filing jointly. Payment is the maximum of zero and gross minus five percent of the excess, so a household that is fully phased out receives eligible false and payment zero rather than an error. Example: forty thousand dollars of AGI as a single filer with one dependent is a full one thousand seven hundred dollars.

A joint return at one hundred seventy-five thousand with two dependents starts at three thousand four hundred and loses one thousand two hundred fifty to the five-percent excess, leaving two thousand one hundred fifty. The formula field restates that arithmetic so a reviewer can print it next to the numbers.

Where a HEALS Act stimulus check calculator earns its keep

People who type heals act stimulus check into a search box are not looking for a generic rebate toy where they paste their own percentages, and they are not looking for the California Franchise Tax Board Middle Class Tax Refund schedule. They want the July 2020 Senate Republican second-round recovery rebate applied to a filing status, an AGI figure, and a dependent count, so they can see what that proposed check would have been on a given return.

Journalists, tax-prep desks, and classroom public-finance lessons still compare those historical proposals against the CARES Act first payment and the later six-hundred-dollar December check; a deterministic oracle that names the three official thresholds avoids a spreadsheet cell someone forgot to lock.

Head of household versus single is the easy mistake by hand: both can look like a one-adult return, but head of household keeps the one-hundred-twelve-thousand-five-hundred threshold while single drops it to seventy-five thousand, so a household at ninety thousand dollars is fully paid as head of household and already in the phase-out as single. Failed validation does not consume balance.

Keep requests small, pin payment and eligible in tests, and you get a reproducible HEALS Act rebate figure for landing pages, explainers, and lightweight household notebooks without standing up a tax-engine product of your own. Pair this capability with a separate state-refund tool when you need those layers; keep this surface focused on the federal draft people mean when they search for the HEALS Act stimulus check.

Household archive and planning notes

Store the estimated payment next to a scanned return so a later question about the HEALS Act stimulus check has a reproducible answer.

What happens if adjusted gross income is negative?

Adjusted gross income must be a finite non-negative number; negative income is not billed.

Does the HEALS Act count adult dependents, or only children under 17?

HEALS counted every dependent claimed on the return, including college students and adult dependents. CARES had paid the five hundred dollars only for qualifying children under seventeen.

When does the HEALS Act stimulus payment phase out to zero?

Once the reduction reaches the gross payment, eligible is false and payment is zero.

Was the HEALS Act stimulus check ever paid?

This calculator shows what the July 2020 Senate Republican draft would have issued. The second check that later became law in December 2020 was a different payment with different amounts.

How much would a single filer with one dependent have received?

With 40,000 of adjusted gross income, the full 1,700: 1,200 for the adult plus 500 for the dependent. That income sits below the 75,000 threshold, so nothing is phased out.

What the HEALS Act stimulus check is and how the payment is computed

This endpoint therefore asks for a dependent count, not a qualifying-child-under-seventeen count.

Input contract, filing statuses, and error behaviour

Prefer bare numbers over formatted strings; currency marks and thousands separators are not parsed. POST a JSON body with three required fields. filing_status selects the adult base and the phase-out threshold and must be one of single, married_joint, married_separate, head_of_household, or qualifying_widow; aliases status and filing are accepted, and common abbreviations such as mfj, mfs, hoh, and qss resolve to the canonical values. married_joint is the only status that counts two adults and that uses the one-hundred-fifty-thousand threshold. head_of_household uses one adult and one hundred twelve thousand five hundred. single, married_separate, and qualifying_widow each use one adult and seventy-five thousand, matching the CARES Act grouping of joint returns versus head of household versus all others. An unknown status fails with invalid_input listing the allowed values. agi is adjusted gross income in United States dollars; it must be a finite number greater than or equal to zero, and the aliases income and adjusted_gross_income are accepted so a spreadsheet export does not need a rename step. If agi is missing, empty, NaN, Infinity, a non-numeric string, or otherwise not a finite number, the task fails with invalid_input naming agi and is not billed. A negative amount is also rejected, with a message that income cannot be negative — that is the product contract for this landing. dependents is the whole number of dependents claimed on the return, from zero through twenty; aliases dependent_count and num_dependents are accepted. A fractional count, a negative count, or a value above the published limit fails with invalid_input. On success the body echoes the canonical filing_status, rounded agi, and dependents; returns adults as one or two; eligible as a boolean that is false when the rebate is fully phased out; payment as the dollars after the five-percent haircut; base_payment as the adult column; dependent_amount as five hundred times the count; gross_payment as their sum; phaseout_threshold, phaseout_reduction, and excess_income; fully_phased_out; program set to heals_act_recovery_rebate; and a formula string. This endpoint does not test Social Security numbers, incarceration, or whether you could be claimed as a dependent yourself, and it is not the California stimulus table. Pricing for a successful item is a flat $0.002.

Where a HEALS Act stimulus check calculator earns its keep

Planning scripts that batch many households through the JSON API get the same dollars a human sees on the page.

Newsroom or classroom historical comparison

Batch many households through the JSON API so an explainer quotes the same July 2020 draft dollars the widget shows, without a handwritten phase-out table.

How is the HEALS Act stimulus check amount calculated?

Send filing_status, agi, and dependents. The API uses one thousand two hundred dollars per adult (two thousand four hundred on a joint return) plus five hundred dollars per dependent, then subtracts five percent of AGI above the filing-status threshold.

What does the HEALS Act stimulus check calculator cost?

The browser tool is free. API requests use prepaid KIT balance at $0.002 per successful call; invalid input is not billed.
