Zakat is the 2.5 percent annual levy on zakatable wealth once that wealth has reached the nisab threshold. Households, treasurers of small businesses, and mosque finance desks search for a zakat calculator because they already hold four monetary figures — cash on hand, the current market value of gold, the current market value of silver, and the current market value of investments — plus a nisab amount quoted in the same currency, and they need the 2.5 percent due, or a documented zero when the combined holding sits below the threshold. This tool adds those four asset values, compares the total with nisab, and returns the zakat amount together with whether the threshold was met.

What zakat on cash, gold, silver and investments means, and how the 2.5 percent figure appears

Zakat al-mal is a 2.5 percent levy on zakatable wealth that has reached the nisab threshold. The calculator does not fetch a live gold price and does not convert grams into currency: you supply each holding as a monetary amount in one unit, together with the nisab threshold in that same unit. The identity is then a single comparison and a single multiplication.

Total wealth is cash plus gold plus silver plus investments. If that total is greater than or equal to nisab, zakat equals 2.5 percent of the total — not 2.5 percent of the excess above nisab, because the classical rate applies to the whole zakatable pool once the threshold is met. If the total is strictly below nisab, zakat is zero and the response still reports the total so a reviewer can see how far the household sits from the threshold.

A worked example: five thousand in cash, three thousand in gold, five hundred in silver, and one thousand five hundred in investments sum to ten thousand; with a nisab of four thousand the threshold is met and zakat is two hundred fifty after half-up rounding to two decimal places. Another example: two hundred in cash plus fifty in gold plus twenty-five in silver plus twenty-five in investments sums to three hundred; with a nisab of five thousand the threshold is not met and zakat is zero.

The implementation does not look up the lunar year of ownership (the hawl), does not distinguish personal-use jewelry from investment gold, and does not subtract debts: those judgments belong with a scholar or a treasurer.

Where a zakat calculator earns its keep

Households comparing two years of savings can post the same five numbers twice and quote a stable zakat figure with a two-decimal currency contract. Treasurers of small businesses that hold surplus cash and listed shares can pin the returned zakat next to a payout plan without opening a spreadsheet for each scenario.

Educators teaching the difference between a levy on the whole pool and a levy only on the excess above the threshold can seed classroom examples that show ten thousand at a nisab of four thousand as two hundred fifty, and can demonstrate the hard fail when someone types a negative gold value. Failed validation does not consume balance.

Keep every asset value and the nisab at zero or more, pin the rounded zakat in tests, and you get reproducible zakat amounts for widgets, CMS embeds, and edge workers without standing up a finance service of your own.

Household zakat at year end

Turn cash, gold, silver, and investment values plus a nisab quoted in the same currency into the 2.5 percent due, or a documented zero when the combined holding sits below the threshold.

Classroom nisab checks

Let students submit cash, gold, silver, investments, and nisab and verify the 2.5 percent result, including the hard fail when any asset value is negative.

How is zakat calculated from cash, gold, silver, and investments?

Total wealth is cash plus gold plus silver plus investments. If that total is greater than or equal to nisab, zakat is 2.5 percent of the total after half-up rounding to two decimal places. If the total is below nisab, zakat is zero. The rate applies to the whole pool once the threshold is met, not only to the excess above nisab.

What happens if cash, gold, silver, or investments is negative?

A negative asset value is not accepted; enter zero or more for each holding. A negative nisab is rejected for the same reason. Failed validation is not billed.

Do I enter gold and silver as weights or as money?

Enter gold and silver as present market values in the same currency as cash, investments, and nisab. You (or your scholar) convert weight into currency first, then pass the value.

What if total wealth is below nisab, and what if one holding is zero?

Zero is a valid empty bucket: a cash-only household can send gold, silver, and investments as zero and still receive a finite result.

Is zakat 2.5% of the whole amount or only of the part above nisab?

Of the whole amount. Once your combined wealth reaches nisab, 2.5% applies to the entire total, so 10,000 with a nisab of 4,000 gives 250, not 2.5% of the excess alone.

A negative cash, gold, silver, or investment value fails with invalid_input instead of inventing a credit against wealth that cannot be negative.

What zakat on cash, gold, silver and investments means, and how the 2.5 percent figure appears

In the sense this landing ranks for, the four holdings that people already value in currency are cash, gold, silver, and investments: bank balances and physical notes, the present market value of gold jewelry or bullion, the present market value of silver, and the present market value of shares, funds, and similar tradeable assets.

Input contract, response shape, and error behaviour

A negative nisab is rejected for the same reason a threshold cannot sit below zero. Zero is an honest empty bucket: a household with only cash can send gold, silver, and investments as zero and still receive a finite zakat. Pair the result with your own hawl calendar or debt schedule if a scholar requires them; start here when the product question is a transparent, five-input zakat amount for a page, a worksheet, or a batch of household scenarios that already share one currency. POST a JSON body with five required finite numbers: cash (notes, current accounts, and other liquid balances, zero or greater; aliases cash_value, money, cash_on_hand, cash_holdings), gold (present market value of gold holdings in the same currency; aliases gold_value, gold_holdings, gold_worth), silver (present market value of silver holdings; aliases silver_value, silver_holdings, silver_worth), investments (present market value of zakatable shares, funds, and similar tradeable assets; aliases investment, investment_value, stocks, shares), and nisab (the threshold in the same currency; aliases threshold, nisab_value, nisab_threshold, min_wealth). Each field may arrive as a JSON number or as a numeric string. Missing fields, empty strings, booleans, and non-finite values fail with invalid_input naming the field and are not billed. On success the body echoes the five inputs after half-up rounding to two decimal places; reports total_wealth as their sum; reports nisab_met as true when total_wealth is greater than or equal to nisab and false otherwise; returns zakat_rate as 0.025; returns zakat as 2.5 percent of total_wealth when the threshold is met, or zero when it is not; and includes a short formula string restating the identity.

Where a zakat calculator earns its keep

Because the implementation is tier A parse, every successful call costs the published $0.002 base price with no model tokens and no outbound network.

Mosque and Ramadan landing widgets

Let visitors submit the four holdings and a local nisab and quote a stable zakat figure that matches the prepaid API path byte for byte.

What does the zakat calculator cost?

The browser tool is free. API requests use prepaid balance at $0.002 per successful call; invalid input is not billed.
