How the week of the month is counted

This calculator splits every month into blocks of seven days that start on the 1st. Days 1 to 7 make up week 1, the next seven days make up week 2, and so on. To find the week for any date, divide the day of the month by seven and round the result up to the next whole number. For 25 July 2026, 25 divided by seven is a little over three, so the date sits in week 4. The result also shows the weekday, a Saturday in this case, and the date written as 2026-07-25.

When it helps and what to watch for

Counting weeks this way is handy for schedules and rules phrased as the first, second or fourth week of a month, and for grouping a month's records into simple, equal blocks. Keep in mind that these weeks do not follow calendar rows: they ignore whether a week starts on Monday or Sunday, so a block can run from a Wednesday to a Tuesday. Longer months spill into a fifth week, which holds the 30th and the 31st. The answer depends only on the date you enter, with no network calls, so it is the same every time.

How is the week of the month worked out?

Divide the day of the month by seven and round up. For 25 July 2026, 25 divided by seven is a little over three, so the date falls in week 4.

Does the week of the month depend on the weekday?

No. Weeks are counted in blocks of seven days starting on the 1st, whatever weekday that is. The weekday is shown separately, so the 25th is in week 4 in any month.

Can a month have a fifth week?

Yes. Days after the first four blocks of seven, such as the 30th or 31st, fall in week 5. Only a February without a leap day ends exactly at the close of week 4.

What else does the result show?

Besides the week number, you get the weekday and the date written in ISO form. For 25 July 2026 that is a Saturday, shown as 2026-07-25.
