Unicode Mathematical Script letters look like elegant cursive handwriting and travel as ordinary characters—no special font required—so people paste them into display names, bios, invitations, and social captions. This capability turns plain Latin A through Z into those script code points and converts the same glyphs back to readable ASCII. Encode mode maps each letter with the official Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, including the Letterlike Symbols exceptions such as script capital B and small e. Decode mode reverses that table so a fancy string becomes ordinary text again for storage, search, or moderation. Characters that are not Latin letters or known script glyphs stay in the result and appear in an unmapped list, so mixed emoji or other styles never vanish silently. Spaces, digits, and common punctuation pass through for natural display names.

How Mathematical Script (cursive) mapping works

Unicode defines a Mathematical Script style for Latin letters inside the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, with a few historical glyphs living in Letterlike Symbols. Capital A becomes U+1D49C, capital B is the compatibility character U+212C, small e is U+212F, small g is U+210A, and small o is U+2134; the remaining letters fill contiguous ranges so every A–Z and a–z has exactly one cursive form.

Those code points often sit outside the Basic Multilingual Plane, so correct converters walk the string by Unicode scalar value with codePointAt rather than by UTF-16 code unit. Encode mode replaces each plain Latin letter with its script counterpart while leaving spaces, digits, and common ASCII punctuation untouched so a name like Hello World stays two words after styling. Decode mode reads script characters and writes the corresponding plain letters, leaving already-plain A–Z/a–z as passthrough so mixed strings still clean up.

Any other symbol—emoji, Greek, bold mathematical letters from a different style, or unexpected marks—is preserved in the output string and listed once in the unmapped array so callers can warn users or strip leftovers deliberately. Because the style is pure Unicode, the result pastes into chats, documents, and form fields that accept general text without installing a calligraphy font.

When mode is omitted, encode is the default so a single field still produces a useful fancy string. Encode treats text as plain content and returns result filled with Mathematical Script letters. Decode treats text as script or mixed content and returns plain Latin where the table applies.

When at least one unmapped character exists, the response includes an unmapped array of those unique characters in first-seen order; when every character mapped or passed through cleanly, that field is omitted rather than set to null. Fixed labels style and script identify the Mathematical Script cursive profile so clients can assert which alphabet they hit. Classic checks include encoding Hello to its six script glyphs, decoding that string back to Hello, and encoding a phrase with a space to prove passthrough.

Where cursive script text conversion earns its keep

Creators who want a soft handwritten look in usernames, stream titles, or event invites often reach for Mathematical Script because it copies as plain text and still reads as fancy calligraphy on most modern devices. Community managers generate styled display names for campaigns and need a reversible path so moderation tools can recover the underlying ASCII spelling for keyword filters and ban lists. Product teams building profile editors can offer a one-click script preview without shipping a custom font file or canvas renderer.

Support desks paste opaque fancy text from tickets and need unmapped reporting when the user mixed bold serif, fraktur, or emoji that this converter deliberately does not rewrite. If you need bold script, fraktur, double-struck, fullwidth, or regional calligraphy fonts as images, treat those as separate search intents and landings rather than overloading this Mathematical Script converter page.

Fancy display names and bios

Turn plain A–Z names into Unicode Mathematical Script (cursive) for social profiles, stream titles, and event invites that paste without a custom font.

Moderation and plain-text recovery

Decode cursive script usernames back to ASCII for keyword filters, search indexes, and ban lists while listing any leftover unmapped symbols.

What is Unicode Mathematical Script (cursive) text?

It is the Unicode Mathematical Script letter style for Latin A–Z and a–z—often called cursive or calligraphy letters—stored as real characters (including U+1D49C and Letterlike exceptions like ℬ and ℯ), not as a font effect.

How do I convert plain letters to cursive script?

Send a non-empty string in text with mode encode (or omit mode). Each Latin letter becomes its Mathematical Script counterpart; spaces, digits, and common punctuation pass through unchanged.

How do I convert script letters back to plain text?

Send the fancy string with mode decode. Known script glyphs map to A–Z/a–z; plain Latin already present stays as-is; other symbols are preserved and listed under unmapped when present.

What does unmapped mean in the response?

Unmapped characters are symbols that are neither transformed Latin letters nor passthrough spaces, digits, or common punctuation. They remain in result and appear once each in the unmapped array so you can warn or clean them.

Are numbers turned into script as well?

No. Only the letters A to Z and a to z change. Digits, spaces and common punctuation stay exactly as typed, so a name with a year or a hyphen keeps those parts plain.

Everything on this page is available programmatically. This section is for teams who want to wire it into their own systems; everyone else can just use the tool above.

POSThttps://api.kit.forhosting.com/enc/script-unicode

Prefer to automate it? One authenticated POST creates the task; the result comes back by webhook or a signed link. The same capability also runs here on the web, by email and from Telegram — and soon from our app too.

curl -X POST https://api.kit.forhosting.com/enc/script-unicode \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $KIT_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \

The API is asynchronous: the call returns a task_id immediately and the result arrives by webhook. Polling is capped at 1 req/s per task.

The free browser path and the paid API share one pure deterministic function, so demos and automation always agree on the same transform.

How Mathematical Script (cursive) mapping works

Length is limited to a documented maximum of scalar values so a runaway paste cannot exhaust a Worker isolate.

Input contract, response fields, and error behaviour

POST a JSON object with a required non-empty string field named text and an optional mode set to encode or decode. Aliases such as input, value, data, and s are accepted for text; op, operation, and direction alias mode. Both directions echo mode and the original text, report mapped_count for letters that transformed, passthrough_count for spaces digits and punctuation that stayed put, unmapped_count for distinct leftover symbols, and length as the scalar count of the result. Missing text, empty strings, non-string objects for text, unsupported mode values, and strings longer than the documented maximum fail with invalid_input and a clear English message; validation failures do not consume prepaid balance. Successful API calls bill the published base of $0.002 per item.

CI fixtures for styled text pipelines

Generate deterministic encode/decode goldens so profile editors and content pipelines never disagree on Mathematical Script round-trips.

What does the unicode cursive script converter cost?

The browser tool is free. API requests use prepaid KIT balance at $0.002 per successful call; invalid input is not billed.
