A television series is catalogued by seasons, but the time it actually costs is a product of three numbers: how many seasons exist, how many episodes sit in a typical season, and how many minutes each episode runs. Before you start a new drama, promise a complete rewatch, or decide whether a limited series fits a long weekend, you need that product as viewing hours, not as a vague 'about eight seasons'. This TV series duration calculator accepts three positive finite numbers — seasons, episodes per season, and episode length in minutes — and returns the total viewing hours. Five seasons of ten forty-five-minute episodes is thirty-seven and a half hours. A long-running sitcom of eight seasons, twenty-four episodes each, at twenty-two minutes is just over seventy hours.
How total viewing hours are computed from seasons and episodes
The identity is the same one every streaming info card hides behind a single runtime. Total episode count is seasons multiplied by episodes per season. Gross runtime in minutes is that episode count multiplied by the length of one episode in minutes.
Viewing hours are those minutes divided by sixty. There is no playback-speed term: this calculator answers how long the series is at the printed runtime, not how long it will take you if you speed the soundtrack up. Fractional seasons and episode counts are accepted because mid-season pickups, recut miniseries, and two-part finales are real; the arithmetic does not force an integer.
Episode length may be a decimal as well — forty-two and a half minutes is a common prestige-drama card. If season lengths vary, pick a typical episode count or run the calculator once per season and add the hours yourself. It answers one question: if every listed season has the same number of episodes of the same length, how many viewing hours is that series.
Where a TV series duration calculator earns its keep
Households choosing a show for a holiday week need hours so a twelve-season procedural is not mistaken for a weekend project, and so a six-episode limited series is not over-blocked. Streaming recap writers and editors building an air-date calendar need a deterministic conversion from season bible numbers to a wall-clock budget they can pin in a spreadsheet. Teachers assembling a media-studies syllabus can turn a three-season documentary into assigned viewing hours without opening a calculator for every title.
Club programmers and hospitality teams running a themed series night can turn a stack of seasons into a start-to-finish clock. Keep all three inputs positive and finite, pin hours in your tests, and you get a reproducible series runtime for a holiday plan, an editorial calendar, a syllabus, or an edge worker without standing up a streaming catalogue of your own.
What you can do with it
Decide if a long-running drama fits a holiday
Turn five seasons of ten forty-five-minute episodes into 37.5 viewing hours so you know a week off is enough and a single weekend is not.
Compare two shows by total viewing hours
Keep episode length honest, change only seasons and episodes per season, and see which catalogue title is actually the longer commitment.
Syllabi, recap desks, and series nights
Convert a season bible of counts and runtimes into hours a teacher, editor, or club programmer can block on a calendar.
FAQ
Why do I enter seasons and episodes per season instead of one episode count?
That is how series are sold and searched. A season bible lists seasons and a typical episode count; multiplying them is the step people skip when they only remember 'eight seasons' and then underestimate the hours.
What happens if a count is zero, negative, or missing?
A series with no seasons, a season with no episodes, or a zero-length episode is not a duration, and those failures are not billed.
Are episode lengths in minutes or hours?
Hours appear only in the result after the gross runtime is divided by sixty.
How many hours does it take to watch a whole series?
Multiply seasons by episodes per season, then by the minutes of one episode, and divide by 60. Five seasons of ten 45-minute episodes come to 50 episodes, 2,250 minutes and 37.5 hours.
What if the seasons have different numbers of episodes?
Enter a typical episode count for the whole series, or run the calculator once per season and add the hours yourself. Fractional counts are accepted, which helps with mid-season pickups and two-part finales.

Technical notes
Zero, negative, missing, or non-finite counts fail with invalid_input and are not billed. Use the page in your browser at no charge, or call the API at $0.002 per successful request when a spreadsheet, syllabus, or editorial calendar needs the identical figure.
How total viewing hours are computed from seasons and episodes
The response echoes the cleaned seasons, episodes_per_season, and episode_minutes, then returns total_episodes, total_minutes, and hours, plus a formula string that restates the identity so a user interface can show the rule next to the number. This endpoint does not fetch episode lists from a catalogue, does not average irregular season lengths, and does not subtract opening-credit skips.
Input contract, response fields, and validation errors
Errors always name the canonical field so the web form can mark the right control. Zero and negative values fail because a series with no seasons, a season with no episodes, or a zero-length episode is not a duration. Magnitudes above the documented ceilings fail so a typo cannot blow the isolate. A familiar check is five seasons of ten forty-five-minute episodes, which yields fifty episodes, two thousand two hundred fifty minutes, and 37.5 hours. An eight-season, twenty-four-episode sitcom at twenty-two minutes is one hundred ninety-two episodes, four thousand two hundred twenty-four minutes, and 70.4 hours. POST a JSON body with three required positive finite numbers: seasons, the number of seasons in the series; episodes_per_season, how many episodes sit in each of those seasons; and episode_minutes, the runtime of one episode in minutes. Aliases season_count, n_seasons, and season are accepted for seasons; episodes, eps, episode_count, and episodes_per for episodes_per_season; and episode_length, minutes, length, duration, and runtime for episode_minutes. Each field may arrive as a JSON number or as a numeric string; booleans, objects, empty strings, NaN, and Infinity fail with invalid_input. On success the body includes the echoed inputs, total_episodes as seasons times episodes per season, total_minutes as that product times episode_minutes, hours as total_minutes divided by sixty, and a formula string. Missing fields and non-positive values are invalid_input and are not billed. Successful API calls use the published $0.002 base price; the free browser path runs the same solve function without consuming prepaid balance.
Technical questions
How do I calculate the total duration of a TV series?
Send three positive numbers: seasons, episodes_per_season, and episode_minutes. The API returns total_episodes = seasons × episodes_per_season, total_minutes = total_episodes × episode_minutes, and hours = total_minutes / 60.
What does the TV series duration calculator cost?
The browser tool is free. API requests use prepaid KIT balance at $0.002 per successful call; invalid input is not billed.
