Software contract value calculator
A license at 499 a month for 12 months with a 1,500 setup has a total contract value of 7,488, of which 5,988 is subscription. Enter the fee, the term in months and the setup before you sign the order form. Free in your browser.

Procurement teams, SaaS buyers, and software vendors all need a single cash figure they can put on a statement of work: the total contract value of a license that bills monthly and charges a one-time setup. This software contract value calculator accepts a non-negative monthly fee, a contract length that must be a positive integer number of months, and a one-time setup cost, then returns the total contract value as a deterministic sum.
What software contract value is and how the TCV formula works
Total contract value, often abbreviated TCV in software sales, is the cash a buyer commits for a licensed product over the signed term, not only the monthly subscription printed on a rate card. Recurring software is priced as a periodic fee; the one-time setup is the lump that sits beside it: implementation, data migration, onboarding workshops, environment provisioning, and professional services billed once at kickoff. Money fields round to two decimal places so they match invoices and purchase orders.
The identity does not invent seat ramps, annual uplifts, usage overages, or multi-product bundles: if the quote is a flat monthly fee for the whole term, send that fee; if year-two pricing is higher, either send the average monthly fee for the term or run the calculator once per plateau and add the totals yourself. Usage-based overages and marketplace taxes are out of scope.
A contract length that is not a positive integer of months is rejected rather than silently truncated: twelve-point-five months is not a commercial software term, and converting years to months is the caller's job. A setup cost of zero is legal and simply means onboarding already sits inside the monthly fee.
What you can do with it
SaaS purchase-order budget
Turn a quoted monthly fee, a term in months, and a known implementation line into recurring total and total contract value before the order form is signed.
Vendor pricing and proposal pages
Let prospects enter monthly fee, contract length, and setup next to a software listing and see the total contract value they would commit.
FAQ
What happens if contract length is not a positive integer?
Fractions, zero, negatives, and non-numeric strings are rejected rather than truncated, and invalid input is not billed.
Does the calculator include tax, ramps, or usage overages?
No. It is the flat-term identity only. Send an average monthly fee if the quote steps, or run once per plateau and add the totals. Taxes and overages belong in the order form.
How do I calculate the total contract value of a software deal?
Multiply the monthly fee by the number of months, then add the one-time setup. 499 a month for 12 months is 5,988, and a 1,500 setup brings the total to 7,488.
How do I handle a price that rises in the second year?
Either enter the average monthly fee across the whole term, or run the calculator once for each price period and add the totals yourself. Price increases are not built in.
Can the setup cost or the monthly fee be zero?
Yes. A zero setup means onboarding is already inside the monthly fee. A zero monthly fee with a setup describes a paid implementation or pilot with no subscription yet.

Technical notes
The identity is the one every SaaS quote already implies: total_contract_value equals monthly_fee times contract_length plus setup_cost. A length that is not a whole number of months fails with invalid_input instead of being silently truncated.
What software contract value is and how the TCV formula works
Adding that setup after multiplying the monthly fee by the contract length in months is the closed-form identity every quote desk uses before the first draft of an order form. total_contract_value equals monthly_fee times contract_length plus setup_cost. recurring_total is the subscription stream alone, so a reviewer can see how much of the commitment is run-rate versus onboarding. Zero monthly fee with a positive setup describes a prepaid implementation with no subscription yet, which some pilots use.
Input contract, response shape, and error behaviour
Contract length is the field the product contract singles out: it must be a whole number of months, never a year count silently multiplied, never a rounded decimal. Magnitudes above the declared limit also fail. POST a JSON body with three required fields: monthly_fee, the recurring monthly software fee as a finite number at least zero (aliases monthly, fee, monthly_price, subscription_fee, and mrr); contract_length, the term as a positive integer number of months from one through three hundred sixty (aliases months, term, length, term_months, and contract_months); and setup_cost, the one-time onboarding amount as a finite number at least zero (aliases setup, onboarding, implementation_fee, one_time, and one_time_cost). Each numeric field may arrive as a JSON number or as a numeric string. Missing fields, empty strings, non-finite values, a negative monthly fee or setup, a boolean where a number is required, and any contract_length that is not a positive integer—zero, a fraction such as twelve point five, a boolean, or a non-numeric string—fail with invalid_input naming the field and are not billed. On success the body echoes monthly_fee, contract_length, and setup_cost after rounding, adds recurring_total as fee times length, total_contract_value as the payable commitment, and a formula string restating the identity. Example: monthly_fee of four hundred ninety-nine, contract_length of twelve, and setup_cost of one thousand five hundred yields a recurring total of five thousand nine hundred eighty-eight and a total contract value of seven thousand four hundred eighty-eight. Pair the figure with your own tax table if the jurisdiction taxes the setup separately; this endpoint computes the arithmetic total only. Send setup_cost as the sum you have already decided belongs outside the monthly fee, not as a second monthly stream: if onboarding is billed monthly, add it to monthly_fee instead of stuffing twelve times onboarding into setup unless you truly want a prepaid lump.
Where a software contract value calculator earns its keep
Resellers and marketplace listings can expose the same identity to partners without standing up a quoting engine of their own. Failed validation does not consume balance. Quote tools and CRM plugins can call the same pure module from the browser for free previews and from the API when storing a scenario, guaranteeing that the total a visitor saw on a landing page matches the total stored after they save a proposal. Procurement teams comparing two SaaS platforms already know implementation and migration line items; posting monthly_fee, contract_length, and setup_cost fills a card with recurring total and total contract value so a finance lead can see whether twenty-four months is cheaper in cash than twelve at a higher monthly hit. Educators teaching software commercial math can seed classroom examples that fail loudly when contract_length is not a positive integer, instead of silently truncating twelve-point-seven months into twelve. Sales operations can illustrate a waived setup by sending setup_cost of zero while keeping the monthly fee unchanged. Keep contract_length a whole number of months, pin the rounded money fields in tests, and you get reproducible software contract totals for widgets, LMS modules, and edge workers without a billing stack of your own.
Integration use cases
CRM quote persistence
Call the same pure module from the browser for a preview and from the API when saving a deal so the stored TCV matches what the buyer already saw.
Technical questions
How is software contract value calculated?
Send a non-negative monthly_fee, a positive integer contract_length in months, and a non-negative setup_cost. The API returns total_contract_value = monthly_fee × contract_length + setup_cost, plus the recurring_total on its own.
Can setup cost be zero?
Yes. A setup_cost of zero means onboarding is already inside the monthly fee; total contract value is then exactly the recurring total.
What does the software contract value calculator cost?
The browser tool is free. API requests use prepaid KIT balance at $0.002 per successful call; invalid input is not billed.
