Pressure head converter

10 meters of water column is 14.22334330712 psi, because one meter of water is exactly 9806.65 Pa. Switch between water-column heights and psi, kPa, bar, Pa or atm for pump curves, HVAC static-pressure logs and irrigation tables. Free in your browser.

A pressure head converter turns a hydrostatic column height or equivalent fluid pressure written in one unit into another without hunting tables or rewriting spreadsheet formulas.

Supported units and how the conversion is computed

The converter accepts nine pressure-head and pressure families under stable canonical codes: mH2O for meters of water column, ftH2O for feet of water, inH2O for inches of water, mmH2O for millimeters of water, psi for pounds per square inch, kPa for the kilopascal, bar for the bar, Pa for the SI pascal, and atm for the standard atmosphere.

Water-column factors follow the conventional engineering convention of one thousand kilograms per cubic meter density times standard gravity nine point eight zero six six five meters per second squared, so one meter of water is exactly nine thousand eight hundred six point six five pascals, one foot of water is zero point three zero four eight meters times that factor, one inch of water is zero point zero two five four meters times that factor, and one millimeter of water is one thousandth of a meter of water.

One psi uses the standard lbf-per-square-inch factor, one bar is one hundred thousand pascals, one kilopascal is one thousand pascals, and one atmosphere is one hundred one thousand three hundred twenty-five pascals. Because the intermediate is always pascals, converting A to B and B to A is consistent up to the published rounding of twelve decimal places, and there is no pairwise matrix that can drift out of sync.

Force-area pressure solvers, pump curve affinity laws, and non-water fluid densities are intentionally out of scope so hydraulic and HVAC users get predictable water-column and pressure-head results under one clear convention.

Where it helps with pumps, HVAC and irrigation

Use the free in-browser pressure head converter when you need a quick meters-of-water-to-psi, feet-of-water-to-kilopascals, or inches-of-water-to-bar check while reading a pump curve, boiler datasheet, HVAC static-pressure schedule, irrigation head table, or homework problem. Open the page, enter the number and units, and copy the result without installing a spreadsheet, a unit library, or a desktop calculator pack. Source inputs follow the same retention rules as other KIT parse items, and results are safe to cache because the algorithm is fully deterministic.

Authors shipping mobile apps or chatbots can map the result and formula fields directly into cards that show both the number and the conversion path students, operators, and engineers expect on paper.

Pumps, irrigation, and hydraulics

Convert meters or feet of water to psi (and back) so pump curves, TDH tables, and irrigation head schedules share one SI-or-customary view without hand-written factors.

HVAC and manometer logs

Normalize inches of water, millimeters of water, and pascals in static-pressure readings when instruments mix manometer and SI pressure units.

How do I convert meters of water to psi?

The response includes result, intermediate pascals, and a readable formula line.

Which units are supported?

mH2O (meters of water), ftH2O (feet of water), inH2O, mmH2O, psi, kPa, bar, Pa, and atm.

What happens if I send an unknown unit?

The message names the bad field and lists the supported units; validation failures are not charged.

Is the pressure head converter free?

The browser tool runs free on your device.

How many pascals is one meter of water?

Exactly 9806.65 pascals, from the engineering convention of water at 1000 kilograms per cubic meter under standard gravity of 9.80665 m/s². Feet, inches and millimeters of water scale from that same figure.

Everything on this page is available programmatically. This section is for teams who want to wire it into their own systems; everyone else can just use the tool above.

Prefer to automate it? One authenticated POST creates the task; the result comes back by webhook or a signed link. The same capability also runs here on the web, by email and from Telegram — and soon from our app too.

The API is asynchronous: the call returns a task_id immediately and the result arrives by webhook. Polling is capped at 1 req/s per task.

The browser tool runs free on your device; the prepaid API charges $0.002 per successful item when pipelines need the same contract from servers and automation.

Supported units and how the conversion is computed

Friendly aliases such as meters of water, feet of water, inches of water, millimeters of water, pounds per square inch, kilopascal, pascal, atmosphere, m water, ft water, and short codes like mwc or iwc are normalized case-insensitively so forms and APIs can pass either short codes or full names. Every request multiplies the input value by the exact pascals-per-unit factor for the source, then divides by the pascals-per-unit factor for the target.

Request shape, response fields, and unknown-unit errors

The error message names the bad field and lists the supported set so clients can correct forms without guessing. Negative values are allowed when you need signed differential head components in engineering pipelines; zero converts cleanly to zero in every target unit. Send a JSON body with three required fields: value as a finite number, from as the source unit string, and to as the target unit string. Aliases amount, quantity, and head are accepted for value; unit_from and source for from; unit_to and target for to. On success the response echoes the canonical from and to codes, human-readable from_label and to_label strings, the converted result, the intermediate pascals quantity, the dimensionless factor from source to target, a short formula line suitable for UI display, the method tag pressure_head_si, and the fixed list of units_supported. Missing value, non-finite numbers such as NaN or Infinity, missing unit fields, and any token that does not map to a supported unit fail with invalid_input and are not charged after the engine rejects the request. Identical inputs always yield identical JSON because the path is pure arithmetic with no randomness, no remote lookup, and no dependence on the wall clock, which makes the endpoint safe to pin in continuous-integration goldens and SDK contract tests. Millimeter-scale manometer results and multi-atmosphere results share the same code path, so extreme magnitude pairs remain well-defined as long as IEEE double precision can represent the intermediate pascals product.

Browser use, API pricing, and everyday workflows

Switch to the prepaid API when a SCADA tag normalizer, hydraulic model, HVAC design tool, irrigation controller, lab data logger, or fluid-mechanics homework checker must convert pressure head at scale under a stable KIT contract at $0.002 per successful item; validation failures that raise invalid_input do not consume balance after rejection. Pair this endpoint with force or flow converters when a product pipeline needs several measure families, or call it alone when search traffic is specifically for pressure head conversion—meters of water, feet of water, psi, and related manometer units—rather than a general unit switchboard.

Lab and classroom pipelines

Convert bar, kPa, atm, and water columns for fluid-statics problems and data loggers with a prepaid, deterministic API and clear invalid_input on unknown units.

What water density and gravity does the converter use?

Water-column units use conventional ρ = 1000 kg/m³ and standard gravity g_n = 9.80665 m/s², so 1 mH2O = 9806.65 Pa exactly under this product contract.
