IVF transfer due date calculator

Works out the estimated due date from an embryo transfer: a day-5 transfer on 15 March 2026 adds 261 days and lands on 1 December 2026. No last period needed, since IVF dating starts from the transfer itself. Free in your browser.

After an IVF embryo transfer, patients and clinics need a transparent estimated due date that starts from the transfer day and the embryo’s age, not from a last menstrual period that may not exist in a medicated cycle. This IVF transfer due date calculator accepts a strict YYYY-MM-DD transfer date and an integer embryo age in days (zero through seven), applies the standard clinical formula EDD equals transfer date plus two hundred sixty-six minus embryo age days, and returns the due date, days added, gestational age at transfer, a short step list, and the formula string. Use it for fertility-clinic intake, patient education after day-three or day-five transfer, and automation that needs a reproducible IVF dating baseline before ultrasound refines the plan.

Why IVF dating starts from the transfer

Dating a natural pregnancy usually starts from the first day of the last period and counts about 280 days. In IVF the moment of conception is known from fertilization and embryo culture, and a medicated cycle may have no meaningful period date at all, so the count is anchored to the transfer instead. Conception to term is taken as 266 days, or 38 weeks, and the embryo's age at transfer is subtracted from it. A day-5 transfer on 15 March 2026 therefore adds 261 days and gives an estimated due date of 1 December 2026.

Reading the result and what it cannot do

Alongside the due date you see the days added, the gestational age at transfer, which is 14 days plus the embryo's age, and a short list of steps that shows the arithmetic. Embryo age goes in whole days from 0 to 7: a day-3 embryo counts as 3, a day-5 or day-6 blastocyst as 5 or 6. Impossible calendar days are rejected rather than guessed. The date is a baseline for counseling and education; ultrasound and the care team refine the plan from there.

Clinic post-transfer counseling

Compute EDD from the recorded transfer date and day-3 or day-5 embryo age and show the formula beside the result in the patient portal.

IVF education and content sites

Let readers practice transfer-based dating with strict YYYY-MM-DD inputs and a deterministic oracle that rejects missing fields and impossible calendar days.

Batch transfer archives

Recompute estimated due dates for research or scheduling pipelines from stored transfer dates and embryo-day columns without timezone-sensitive Date libraries.

How is an IVF due date calculated from embryo transfer?

Two hundred sixty-six days is the conventional span from conception to term; embryo age already lived is subtracted so day-3 transfer adds 263 days and day-5 blastocyst transfer adds 261 days.

What embryo ages are supported?

Whole days from 0 through 7 inclusive. Common clinical values are 3 (cleavage-stage) and 5 or 6 (blastocyst).

How does this differ from a LMP or Naegele due date calculator?

LMP and Naegele tools start from the last menstrual period. This capability starts from the embryo transfer date and embryo age, which is the usual anchor after IVF when a natural LMP is absent or not used for dating.

What gestational age am I on the day of transfer?

It is counted as 14 days plus the embryo's age. A day-5 transfer therefore starts at 19 days, the usual equivalent of dating from a last period, even though no period date is involved.

Does a day-3 or a day-5 transfer change the due date?

Yes, by two days for the same transfer date. A day-3 embryo leaves 263 days to term after transfer and a day-5 blastocyst 261, so the older embryo has the earlier due date.

Prefer to automate it? One authenticated POST creates the task; the result comes back by webhook or a signed link. The same capability also runs here on the web, by email and from Telegram — and soon from our app too.

The API is asynchronous: the call returns a task_id immediately and the result arrives by webhook. Polling is capped at 1 req/s per task.

What the IVF transfer formula computes and why LMP is not required

Natural-cycle pregnancy dating usually starts from the first day of the last menstrual period and counts about two hundred eighty days to term. In IVF the conception moment is known through fertilization and culture, so obstetric dating is anchored to transfer instead of a possibly absent or irrelevant period date. The conventional length from conception to term is two hundred sixty-six days (thirty-eight weeks). If the embryo is already three days old at transfer, only two hundred sixty-three days remain after transfer; if it is a day-five blastocyst, two hundred sixty-one days remain. In general this endpoint implements EDD equals transfer_date plus two hundred sixty-six minus embryo_age_days with pure civil calendar arithmetic: it does not call Date.now, it does not depend on the server timezone, and it does not silently change embryo age. Required fields are transfer_date, an ISO calendar day written as YYYY-MM-DD naming the transfer, and embryo_age_days, a whole integer from zero through seven inclusive. The response also echoes normalized transfer_date and embryo_age_days, reports gestational_age_at_transfer_days as fourteen plus embryo age (the conventional LMP-equivalent gestational age at transfer), labels method as ivf_transfer, restates the formula, and lists human-readable steps so a UI can show the arithmetic without re-deriving it. This is a dating estimate only: it is not a diagnosis, not a guarantee of delivery on that day, and not a substitute for clinical ultrasound dating when that is available.

Input contract, validation, response shape, and deterministic errors

Month must fall between one and twelve; day must be real for that month, so values such as two thousand twenty-six February thirtieth are rejected. Do not send wall-clock timestamps, time zones, or LMP to this capability when you only need transfer-based IVF dating—those belong to other tools; this page is intentionally the transfer-plus-embryo-age formula only. POST a JSON object with required transfer_date as a string matching four digits, hyphen, two-digit month, hyphen, two-digit day, and required embryo_age_days as a whole integer from zero to seven. Aliases transfer, et_date, and embryo_transfer_date map to the date field; aliases embryo_day, day, and embryo_age map to the age field so forms can keep preferred names. Missing either required field, null, empty string, non-matching date strings, non-integer ages, and ages outside zero through seven all throw invalid_input naming the field and the expected shape. On success the body always includes transfer_date, embryo_age_days, due_date, days_added, gestational_age_at_transfer_days, method, formula, and steps; optional null fields are never padded in. Example: transfer_date two thousand twenty-six March fifteenth with embryo_age_days five yields days_added two hundred sixty-one and a due_date of two thousand twenty-six December first under the standard offset. Failed validation is not billed, so you can probe incomplete payloads without spending prepaid balance.

Where an IVF transfer due date API earns its keep in product and education

Fertility clinic portals and post-transfer care apps often need a first-pass estimated due date the moment the lab records transfer day and embryo stage, before any dating scan is uploaded. Embedding this calculator gives a transparent IVF baseline with a published formula and step list that nurses and product copy can quote without reverse-engineering a black-box date library. Prefer ultrasound-based dating when clinical policy requires it, and treat IVF transfer output as the conventional calendar estimate it has always been: simple, explainable, and deterministic.

Which input fields are required?

transfer_date (YYYY-MM-DD) and embryo_age_days (integer 0–7). Aliases transfer, et_date, embryo_transfer_date and embryo_day, day, embryo_age are accepted. Missing required fields return invalid_input and are not billed.

What does the IVF transfer due date calculator cost?

The browser widget is free. API calls use prepaid KIT balance at $0.002 per successful task; invalid input is not charged.
