Days remaining in the quarter

From 15 February 2026 there are 45 days left in the first quarter, counting that day and 31 March. Enter any date to see its quarter, the day it closes and the calendar days that remain. Free in your browser.

This quarter day counter tells you exactly how many whole calendar dates remain from a supplied ISO date through the final date of that calendar quarter. The count is inclusive, so the quarter's last date returns one. It uses only the YYYY-MM-DD value you provide, applies Gregorian leap-year rules with integer arithmetic, and never reads a clock, timezone, network, or hidden default. The same input therefore produces the same quarter, quarter end, and remaining-day count in every environment.

What the remaining-day count means

Calendar quarters divide a Gregorian year into four fixed three-month periods: January through March, April through June, July through September, and October through December. This capability first identifies the period containing your explicit date, then counts every calendar date from that date through the period's final date. The range is inclusive at both ends.

For example, a date that is already the final date of a quarter has one day remaining, while the preceding date has two. That convention matches planning questions such as how many dated checklist slots remain in the quarter, and avoids pretending that a time of day was supplied when the input contains only a date. Weekends and public holidays count because this is a calendar-day measure, not a business-day schedule.

Leap day counts when it lies inside the remaining portion of the first quarter. Nothing is inferred from today, the caller's locale, or a fiscal calendar.

How deterministic UTC calendar arithmetic works

Provide date as an exact YYYY-MM-DD string, including leading zeroes for month and day. The parser validates the structure and then checks that the year is from 0001 through 9999, the month exists, and the day is possible for that month. February has twenty-nine days only when the Gregorian leap-year rule permits it: years divisible by four are leap years except century years, unless the century year is also divisible by four hundred.

After validation, integer arithmetic maps the month to its quarter and selects March, June, September, or December as the ending month. The algorithm adds the unconsumed dates in the input month, every complete intervening month, and the dates in the ending month. It does not instantiate Date, parse a timestamp, inspect a UTC offset, or convert through local time.

Using the result in planning and reporting

A sales operations job can label daily snapshots consistently across regions because every worker processes the same explicit calendar date rather than its own local midnight. A data pipeline can apply the capability to imported records and reject malformed dates before they enter quarterly aggregates. If your policy excludes weekends, holidays, shutdowns, or organization-specific working days, this is not the final scheduling answer; use a business-calendar tool after defining that calendar.

Likewise, fiscal quarters that start in months other than January require a fiscal-period calculation. Both paths use the same pure solve function and therefore share identical edge-case behavior.

Quarter-end close countdown

Add an inclusive calendar-day count to accounting or operations checklists anchored to an explicit reporting date.

Regional dashboard consistency

Compute the same quarterly countdown across offices without local timezone or server-clock differences.

Does it use today's date?

No. It uses only the explicit date field and never reads the system clock.

Are leap years supported?

Yes. Gregorian leap-year rules are applied, including the century and four-hundred-year exceptions.

Does it exclude weekends or holidays?

No. Every calendar date counts. Business-day schedules need a separate holiday and working-week policy.

Is the date I enter counted as a remaining day?

Yes. The count includes both the date you enter and the last day of the quarter, so the quarter's final day shows one day remaining and the day before it shows two.

Can I use it for a fiscal quarter that starts in another month?

No. It only uses the four standard calendar quarters: January to March, April to June, July to September and October to December. A fiscal year that starts in another month needs a different calculation.

Everything on this page is available programmatically. This section is for teams who want to wire it into their own systems; everyone else can just use the tool above.

POSThttps://api.kit.forhosting.com/date/days-remaining-quarter

Prefer to automate it? One authenticated POST creates the task; the result comes back by webhook or a signed link. The same capability also runs here on the web, by email and from Telegram — and soon from our app too.

curl -X POST https://api.kit.forhosting.com/date/days-remaining-quarter \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $KIT_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \

The API is asynchronous: the call returns a task_id immediately and the result arrives by webhook. Polling is capped at 1 req/s per task.

What the remaining-day count means

The response includes the normalized date, year, quarter number, quarter_end, and days_remaining so downstream code can display the answer or verify the boundary without reconstructing it.

How deterministic UTC calendar arithmetic works

Those omissions are deliberate: an ISO calendar date has no hour to shift, and introducing host timezone behavior would make browser and API results disagree. Invalid formats and impossible dates return invalid_input instead of normalization or guessing.

Using the result in planning and reporting

Use days_remaining when a report, countdown, allocation model, or close checklist needs a stable calendar denominator tied to a recorded date. A finance dashboard can pair the value with quarter and quarter_end to show how much of a standard reporting window remains. The output is intentionally small and closed: year and quarter identify the bucket, quarter_end exposes the exact boundary, and days_remaining supplies the inclusive count. For standard calendar quarters, the browser calculation is available without a server round trip, while an automated API request costs $0.002.

Batch date enrichment

Attach quarter, quarter_end, and days_remaining fields to validated ISO dates in data pipelines.

Is the input date included in the count?

Yes. The calculation counts from the supplied calendar date through quarter_end inclusively, so the final date of a quarter returns one.

What does an API request cost?

A successful API request costs $0.002. The same deterministic calculation can also run in the browser.
