Calorie target for weight goal

Going from 80 to 75 kg between 1 January and 12 March 2026 on 2500 kcal of maintenance means eating about 1950 kcal a day. You give two real dates instead of a day count, so a wedding or race deadline stays exact. Free in your browser.

This calorie target for weight goal calculator turns a starting body weight, a goal body weight, an explicit start date, an explicit end date, and your daily maintenance calories into the average daily calorie intake that would reach the goal on the calendar day you choose. Unlike deficit tools that only ask how many kilograms to lose and how many days you have, this page anchors the plan to two real ISO dates so wedding deadlines, race schedules, medical check-ins, and seasonal cut windows stay calendar-true. The model is the classic energy-balance approximation used in coaching worksheets: about 7700 kilocalories per kilogram of body tissue, or 3500 kilocalories per pound, spread evenly across the day count from start to end. For example, moving from eighty kilograms to seventy-five kilograms between the first of January and the twelfth of March at a twenty-five-hundred-calorie maintenance level implies a seventy-day span, a total energy change of minus thirty-eight thousand five hundred kilocalories, a daily adjustment of minus five hundred fifty, and a daily intake near one thousand nine hundred fifty. The engine is fully deterministic finite arithmetic with pure Gregorian date math, no network calls, no sampling, and no system-clock shortcuts.

What a dated calorie goal returns and what the numbers mean

A dated calorie goal answers a planning question people actually type into search bars: how many calories should I eat each day to hit a specific weight by a specific calendar date. You supply current weight and goal weight in the same unit, a start date and an end date as strict ISO YYYY-MM-DD strings, and maintenance calories often labeled TDEE from a prior estimate, wearable average, or clinical assessment.

The calculator does not invent metabolism from age or activity; it only rewrites the arithmetic of energy balance across a fixed date span. First it validates both calendar dates with pure Gregorian rules so February twenty-nine is accepted only in leap years and April thirty-one is rejected. Then it converts each date to an astronomical Julian Day Number and subtracts start from end to obtain a strictly positive day count.

Weight change is goal minus current, so a lower goal produces a negative energy total and a calorie target below maintenance, while a higher goal produces a surplus target for lean gain or refeed plans.

Where dated calorie targets fit in coaching, products, and study

Coaches and clients use a fixed daily intake anchored to two calendar dates as a starting contract before they adjust for hunger, training load, and plateaus. App builders map a goal form that already stores wedding or race dates into food-log defaults without shipping opaque calculator code or depending on the device clock for day counts. Students and dietetic trainees check textbook examples that assume 3500 kilocalories per pound or 7700 per kilogram and need a fast, offline source of daily rates that also exercises date validation.

Product and education tools use the same contract when a learner types eighty kilograms, seventy-five kilograms, a January first start, and a March twelfth finish and the UI must show both the daily calories and the implied deficit beside a maintenance field. Extreme goals that push daily intake below safe ranges are still computed transparently so the UI can warn; this engine does not silently clamp or invent medical advice.

Pair it with body-composition or heart-rate tools when you are building a small lab of free, deterministic health helpers, and always treat the output as a planning estimate rather than a prescription.

What does the calorie target for weight goal calculator cost?

It is free in your browser on this page.

Does this tool estimate my maintenance calories?

No. You provide maintenance (TDEE). The calculator only turns weights and a date range into a daily intake target.

Can I use it to plan weight gain?

Yes. If the goal weight is above your current weight, the energy total turns positive and the daily target lands above maintenance, which suits a lean gain or a refeed plan.

What happens if the end date is before the start date?

The plan is rejected: the end date must fall strictly after the start date. Dates that do not exist, such as 31 April or 29 February outside a leap year, are rejected too.

How is the number of days counted?

The start date is subtracted from the end date on the Gregorian calendar. From 1 January to 12 March 2026 that gives 70 days, and the total energy change is spread evenly across them.

Everything on this page is available programmatically. This section is for teams who want to wire it into their own systems; everyone else can just use the tool above.

What a dated calorie goal returns and what the numbers mean

Multiplying the signed weight change by 7700 kilocalories per kilogram or 3500 per pound yields the total energy that must be removed or added over the whole window; dividing by the day count yields a constant daily adjustment; adding that adjustment to maintenance yields daily_calories. The response also reports daily_deficit_kcal as the negation of the adjustment so loss plans show a positive deficit figure coaches expect, weekly_deficit_kcal for seven-day rollups, direction as loss, gain, or maintain, a method tag energy_balance_by_date, a short formula string, and the decimal precision used. There is no machine-learning path and no random sampling: either the finite arithmetic succeeds inside the documented limits or the request fails with invalid_input. Rejected cases include missing weights, dates, or maintenance; non-finite or non-numeric values; values above the documented ceilings; non-positive body weights; invalid calendar strings; and any end date that is not strictly after the start date, because a non-positive span cannot define a meaningful daily rate. If you need BMR formulas, macro splits, or workout fueling, pair this page with those dedicated tools; this landing answers only the dated goal-to-intake rewrite with stable numeric output for worksheets, product UIs, and API consumers that must not invent adaptive models.

How inputs are read, which units apply, and why results stay reproducible

Dates must match YYYY-MM-DD exactly after trimming; times and offsets are not accepted on this path so a form field cannot silently shift the day count across time zones. Optional leading plus signs and scientific notation on numeric strings are allowed when they parse as finite decimals; embedded spaces, hex prefixes, and non-numeric tokens are rejected with a clear message so a bad cell does not become a wrong intake target. The preferred fields are current_weight for the starting mass, goal_weight for the target mass, start_date and end_date for the inclusive planning anchors as calendar strings, and maintenance_calories for daily maintenance energy in kilocalories. Aliases such as start_weight, from_weight, target_weight, to_weight, from, to, until, goal_date, maintenance, tdee, and maintenance_kcal are accepted so spreadsheets, query strings, and typed forms can reuse one contract without renaming columns. Optional weight_unit defaults to kilograms and also accepts kg, kilogram, lb, lbs, pound, and pounds; pounds use the 3500 kilocalorie convention while kilograms use 7700. An optional precision field, with aliases decimals and dp, chooses how many decimal places to expose, defaulting to two and capped at fifteen so JSON goldens stay stable across runtimes. Pair the free browser run on this page with the priced API when you need the identical mathematical result inside an automated pipeline without re-implementing Julian Day conversion and deficit formulas yourself.

Where dated calorie targets fit in coaching, products, and study

On this page the work runs entirely in your browser; through the API each successful lookup costs $0.002, failed validation is not charged, and nothing is stored after the response returns. That split — free interactive exploration and a priced, identical API — matches the rest of the KIT tier-A catalog and lets you move from a classroom demo to an automated pipeline without changing the mathematical result.

Deterministic test fixtures

Seed CI and unit tests with fixed daily_calories and daily_deficit_kcal from the classic 7700/3500 model and pure JDN day spans.

How are daily calories calculated from two dates?

days = JDN(end_date) − JDN(start_date); total_energy_kcal = (goal_weight − current_weight) × 7700 (kg) or × 3500 (lb); daily_calories = maintenance_calories + total_energy_kcal / days.

What happens if end_date is on or before start_date?

The input is rejected with invalid_input. A non-positive date span cannot define a daily calorie target rate.

Can I plan weight gain as well as loss?

Yes. When goal_weight is higher than current_weight, daily_adjustment_kcal is positive and daily_calories sits above maintenance; direction is reported as gain.
